Making Karaoke Tracks by Separating Vocals and Instrumentals - Cubase, Spectralayers Go

Vocal muting via SpectraLayers One

This article will show you how to perform the following conversions using Cubase Pro 14 and its included SpectraLayers Go (formerly SpectraLayers One):

  • Vocal Cancellation
(separate vocals and backing from song sources (wav files) to create karaoke)
  • Cancellation of orchestra
    (extracting vocals from singing audio)

The quality of the results will vary depending on the audio source, but depending on the purpose, I think it may be of sufficient quality. I think the quality is quite good enough for banquet karaoke.

This page consists of the following contents:

1. The simplest way to cancel vocals

The easiest way to cancel vocals is to follow the steps below:

Load the sound source you want to cancel the vocals from into Cubase and create an audio track [1]. Click on the event in the audio track to select it [2], and select "SpectraLayers" in the information line extension [3].
The SpectraLayers Go operation panel will then open [4]

SpectraLayers

Select "Separate Vocals..." from the "Module" menu in SpectraLayers Go [1]. Click "Run" in the dialog [2] that opens to begin the process [3].

UN-MIX

Once processing is complete, the audio will be split into vocals and orchestra [1]. Muting "Vocals" will cancel the vocals [2].
Muting "Other" will extract the vocals.

2. Adjust the volume balance of vocals and backing tracks

In addition to being able to mute or solo the vocals and backing tracks, you can also adjust the volume balance between them.

You can change the volume by changing the layer display from “compact size” to “standard size” [1] [2].
